We've been on the hunt for the "perfect" embroidery stabilizer. The one that never puckers. The one that makes our appliqué shirts look fabulous both before and after laundering--even with tossing them into the dryer! Does such a product exist? We'll find out!

The goal: To find a nylon or poly mesh stabilizer with consistently good results.

The tests:
We put the various stabilizers though the same kind of treatment our shirts receive on a daily basis, from the process of embroidering them to the process of washing them. For us, this includes ironing as well as laundering and putting the shirts into the dryer.

Does poly or nylon stabilizer shrink when ironed? Does it shrink when put into the dryer? This PDF shows you the results of our testing.

Machine Embroidery Stabilizer Comparison

We've been on the hunt for the "perfect" embroidery stabilizer. The one that never puckers. The one that makes our appliqué shirts look fabulous both before and after laundering--even with tossing them into the dryer! Does such a product exist? We'll find out!

The goal: To find a nylon or poly mesh stabilizer with consistently good results.

Why nylon/ poly mesh instead of regular weight cutaway stabilizer? We are using mesh stabilizer on our shirts as it is less likely to show through the t-shirt as it's lighter weight than regular weight cut away. This stabilizer is meant to support a good quality machine embroidery appliqué design. If you're design is dense (embroidery filled stitches, sayings with fill stitch, satin stitch lettering, appliqué lettering or poorly digitized you made need a second piece a stabilizer to support the stitches).

Note: If you are having satisfactory results with your current stabilizer, that is great, by all means keep using it. However, if you are less than happy with the look of your garments, either before or after laundering, the results of these tests may help you find a stabilizer with better performance.
